Many mods have already been updated, you just need to get the newest one. Modders change something about the game code that makes it work differently and if EA changes those files to fix a bug or change something different, they are outdated and can lead to issues.
Mods on the otherhand need updating with every patch. I haven't heard anything especially bad going on with custom content (hair, clothing, objects) so you can put those back.
